British Sign Languge (BSL) Levels 1-3

 

 

 

All our BSL courses are accredited by IBSL and are nationally recognised

 

British Sign Language Level 1

 

The level 1 award in British sign languge (BSL) studies is suitible for those who:

  • Wish to acquire bacis British Sign Languge skills for the purpose of holding simple communication with Deaf people including family, friends and colleagues.
  • Need to aquire BSL skills as part of a programme of study or professional development
  • Are studing for personal development with a view to future employment

 

Course Length: 66 Hours

 

Entry Requirements: None

 

Progression Route: upon completion of this qualification, learners may progress as follows:

  • Level 2 certificate in British Sign Languge Studies

 

Cost:

  • £450 (includes assessment fees & course materials)
  • ILA funding accepted
  • Payment of instalments available with prior agreement of Deaf Links

British Sign Languge Level 2

 

Level 2 certificate in BSL studies is suitable for those who:

  • Wish to acquire BSL skills for the purpose of holding more detailed communication with Deaf people, including family, friends, colleagues at work, school or college
  • Need to acquire BSL skills as part of a programme of study or professional Development with a view to future employment
  • Wish to progress from BSL level 1 award

 

Course Length: 150 hours

 

Entry Requirements:  It is recommended that entrants should have BSL Level 1 award before embarking this programme

 

Costs:

  • £600 (includes assessment fees & course materials)
  • ILA funding accepted
  • Payment of instalments available with prior agreement of Deaf Links

British Sign Languge Level 3

 

Level 3 certificate in BSL studies is sutible for those who:

  • Wish to acquire varied BSL skills at normal speed and used in social and work settings, for the purpose of working or interacting with Deaf people on a daily or regular basis;
  • Need to quire varied BSl skills as part of a programme of study or professional development
  • Wish to progress from the level 2 certificate
  • This qualification is alos sutible for Deaf people wishing to acquire a qualification in their own languge to meet the requirements of the Tariff of Qualification (ITT) as an approved qualification at level 3 for evidencing personal literacy skills in order to gain QTLS.

 

Course length: 150 hours

 

Entry Level:  It is recommened that entrants should have the level 2 award in BSK before embarking on this programme

 

Progression Route: Upon completion of this qualification, learners may progress to the following qualifacations:

  • Level 4 BSL studies
  • Level 4 Bilingual Skills (BSL/English)
  • Level 6 BSL Studies

 

Cost:

  • £900 (inludes assessment fees & course material)
  • ILA funding accepted
  • Payment of instalments aviable with prior agreement of Deaf Links

Deaf & Deafblind Awareness Training

 

 

 

Our Deaf & Deafblind Awareness Training course is accredited by Signature and is nationally recognised

This 2 day course is a practical and nationally accredited course that will bring benefits to your clients and your organisation from day one.

 

This course will help you to have a better understanding of Deaf people, their languge and communication needs.  It will show you can help break down the barriers for Deaf people in practical ways which cost nothing whilst making your services more accessible not only to Deaf people, but anyone who has a communication difficulty or for who English is a second languge.

 

Using DVD presentation, fun activties and group interaction to reinforce the factual content, this course is of practical value to all agencies serving the public and an invaluable part of invidual continuous professional development.

 

Course Content:

  • Langauge choice and differing cultures of Deaf people
  • How common is deafness
  • Over coming barriers, improving attitudes
  • What does deafness mean and the correct tearms to use
  • Tinnitus and help available for Tinnitus
  • Barriers to communication
  • Communication tactics
  • Hearing aids and technology which helps
  • Professional communication supportfor Deaf people

Lip Reading For People With Hearing Loss

 

Lipreading For Employability Project

 

Do you struggle in a work environment with a hearing loss? 

 

The Lipreading For Employability Project is aimed at people in employment or looking for employment in Dundee.

The programme will include;

  • 30-week Lipreading programme
  • Classes tailored to the needs of work situations
  • Confidence building sessions
  • Communication Skills Development
  • Access to Work scheme information
  • Equipment and aids
  • Peer support  

 

For Employers - The project would like to work with Employers to promote the Lipreading for Employability Programme to employees with a hearing loss. 

 

Cost: Free

Start Date:  September 2017 (evening classes)

 Lipreading for Everyday Project

 

Do you struggle in everyday situations with a hearing loss?

 

The Lipreading for Everyday Project is aimed at anyone who has a hearing loss. The programme will include;

  • A 30-week Lipreading programme 
  • Classes tailored to the needs of everyday situations
  • Confidence building sessions
  •  Communication skills development
  •  Demonstrating of modern equipment and aids
  •  Peer support and self-help networks
